创作背景
在2009年6月，Tuomas Holopainen宣称他已开始致力于新专辑。而Anette Olzon说除了2009年5月前创作的三首歌曲，别的都还暂时没有写完。Holopainen在采访中提到“我不能再说了，但是在下一张专辑确实会有一个大的转变。”
在2010年年初，Olzon说专辑已经完成了一半，最早也得是2011年的秋季。2010年4月，Holopainen说歌曲创作已经结束；6月，demo录制已经结束。2010年夏天，乐队在芬兰的Sävi村庄进行排练，而正式录制由10月开始，2011年五月结束。专辑在2011年六月四日宣告完成。
